I started baking our own bread at home as I didn't want my newborn son to eat the stuff they sell in supermarkets and other retail outlets. Over the years my skills developed until I found myself selling at six farmers markets a week in and around Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Hotels & restaurants wanted my bread and we needed to move the business into an inspected kitchen. Our passion for farming and producing our own high quality, antibiotic and chemical-free food as well as a long-time ambition to relax in our own cafe drinking cappuccinos with friends lead to us opening Haven Coffeebar. Our original location on the waterfront in Port Hawkesbury was beautiful but the need to be in a more mainstream location forced our move to our current location in the mall on Paint Street where we continue to bake beautiful, additive-free bread, make fantastic soups, salads and sandwiches and enjoy locally roasted Fairtrade and Organic cappuccinos with our customers, our friends.
